| Are You Too Tense?Tension does not belong in the golf swing. If you are gripping the club too tight from the beginning, it will cause tension through your arms and shoulders. A correct grip and swing is virtually tension-free and it all starts with your hands.
Too much hand tension causes a variety of undesirable results: loss of distance, open or closed clubface at impact, "digging" into the ground, hand blisters or worn spots on your gloves, muscle fatigue and cramping, and a variety of other problems.
For proper grip tension, simply imagine a tube of toothpaste. Squeeze it hard enough to get paste out, but not so hard that you leave your imprint on the tube. When holding the club correctly, grip tension should be minimal.
